TIPS & HACKS

1. DON’T Micro manage every minute of the day! Things happen, traffic, forgetting shoes, flower girl has to use the potty. Allow yourself time to take deep breaths and enjoy this day! I promise you’ll have more fun if you have some leeway in your timeline 🙂

2. DO Consider if you want a First Look or Not. Some people do not want to see each other before the ceremony and that is understandable! If you are ok with it, it simply helps keep the timeline tighter and smoother for your guests!

3. DON’T leave too much time between events at the reception, You want to keep the timeline moving so that guests stay involved and don’t leave before all the special events happen! Plus you don’t want to pay your photographer to stand around, you get way more candid and special images if you keep the events rollin’!

4. DO Consider if you would like to sneak away with your photographer for sunset photos! usually this happens right after dinner or between two courses. But it all depends on what time of the year your wedding is at and what time sunset is. Talk with your photographer about those options.

5. DON’T forget to consider driving times between venues and photo locations! Traffic can be crazy on the weekends. Its sometimes helpful to check what events are happening around the area so you can plan for it. (for example a triathlon or parade or car show)

6. DO plan time for taking a break. You might need a minute to re calibrate. To be alone with your new spouse. It’s your day, don’t forget that!

7. DON’T have your photographer around too early in the day, you don’t want to waste valuable hours getting photos of your hair or early stages of make up during the getting ready, because not alot happens. It would be better to use that time capturing memories at the reception!

8. DO try to have your ceremony as late as you can in order to keep the timeline tight and avoids having everyone out in the heat of the day, and also photos in mid day are harsher lighting and not as flattering!

Sample Family Photo Groupings for Wedding Formals

Please note, variants may need to be added in for divorced or remarried parents.

We highly suggest you list the names of the people you’d like in photos – it makes not only rounding them up easier, but also makes the organization and execution easier on the day of the wedding. Give a copy to each of your mother’s and also one to the Maid of honor (or bridal party member who would know the people on the list) and have them start letting those people know where to gather and when BEFORE the wedding day. Its best to make your family aware of whats happening before the day so they are prepared.

I’ve listed some variations below, but I do suggest the list be structured like this:

SMITH FAMILY
1. Kate & Josh with Mike and Conny
2. Kate & Josh with Mike and Conny and Seth and Matthew
3. Kate & Josh with Grandpa & Grandma Smith

MACK FAMILY
1. Kate & Josh with Amber & Eliot
2. Kate & Josh with Amber, Eliot, Samantha & Todd
3. Kate and Josh with Grandpa Mack and Mary Johnson

Some of the most common groupings are:

Hello Friends!

I created this little guide for you to help you remember all the little things to have with you on your wedding day for me to photograph. I’d like you to have these items at the venue at the same time I arrive – I like to take all of these small detail shots before all the fun and excitement of the day is underway, the best time is while you are getting ready 🙂

This list makes our job easier, and your day less stressful. Assign this to one person, give them everything the day before the wedding and then you don’t have to worry about it. Make sure they will be at the venue when we arrive.  These should all be in one location so we don’t need to hunt anything down.

The Wedding “Day of” List

  • Copy of Invitation, Save the Date, Wedding Program
  • Wedding Dress
  • Garter
  • Veil
  • Cleaned Rings (his, yours, and your wedding band) – a side note, once you have them cleaned, do not wear them again. Every little smudge shows in photos
  • Jewelry you plan to wear – necklace, earrings, bracelets, cufflinks, watch, etc
  • Your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue
  • Shoes
  • Grooms Clothes & details (including tie/suspenders, handkerchief, etc)
  • List of names of family members for family photos

 That’s it!

Feel free to also include any other special items that you may want photographed with these items and I will make sure to style them into the photos!

Happy planning!

xxoo

This past fall I was blessed to meet the wonderful Vanessa Jahnke – Nutrition Coach, as I began a journey to better my health. I wanted to learn more about what to eat and how to develop a solid foundation for a transformation in my life. I knew that my nutrition was the key.

So I signed up for Vanessa’s one on one coaching for 30 days! It was so amazing and I learned so much! Now, as a disclaimer, my journey is slow because of my stubbornest.. and a little bit of my laziness haha. However, the foundation and skills I learned have stuck with me and I know that when I’m not sleeping right or I start getting migraines its because I’m not following her guidelines! Did you one of the major things I took away was DRINK MORE WATER. I was drinking 3 liters of water a day on her plan!!! I spent a lot of time on the toilet 😉 haha but I felt great and I knew my body needed it! No migraines, more energy and less snacking on junk! If you might be interested please go check her out on FB here or her website www.vanessajahnke.ca

So, when Vanessa came to me and asked me to take photos for her new website and to promote her new branding I was so excited! Of course I said yes and jumped in with two feet! Now, I had never done anything like this before, and it was a little scary at first,  but I absolutely loved the idea of capturing her in her element! It was neat because I didnt have to do alot of posing! Because this was her passion, she was a natural! I can’t wait to work with her again and since doing this project I realized how much I love doing this kind of commercial work and want to help other business owners capture photos for their business too!!

Here are just a few of my favs!

Enjoy xxoo
